Shockey & Sumners ("we", "us") provides bookkeeping services to small businesses. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it and the choices you have.

Information we collect

• What you tell us: your name, business name, email, phone number and details about your business when you fill out our intake form, email us or call us.
• Client financial records: if you hire us, the bank and card statements, transaction details, contractor information and reports needed to do your bookkeeping, mostly accessed inside your own QuickBooks Online company.
• Basic website data: our hosting provider may record standard technical information such as IP address and browser type to keep the site running and secure. We don't use advertising trackers on this site.

How we use it

• To reply to you, prepare a quote and provide the services you hire us for
• To prepare and file 1099 forms when that is part of your engagement
• To meet legal and record-keeping obligations

We do not sell or rent your information, and we don't use your financial data for marketing.

Who we share it with

Only the service providers we need to do the work, such as Intuit (QuickBooks Online), Tally (our intake form), Google (email and file storage), Cloudflare (website hosting) and an IRS-authorized e-filing provider for 1099s. We also share year-end reports with your tax preparer when you ask us to. We may disclose information if required by law.

How we protect it

• We work in QuickBooks Online through accountant access, so you never share your login, and you can remove our access at any time.
• Our business email and Intuit accounts use two-step verification.
• We never ask you to email Social Security numbers, tax IDs or bank account numbers.

No method of storing or sending information is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect yours.

How long we keep it

We keep client records for as long as we work together and afterward for as long as needed to meet legal and tax record-keeping requirements. Inquiries from people who don't become clients are deleted within 12 months.

Your choices

You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it or ask us to delete it, subject to records we must keep by law. Email worksumna@gmail.com.
